Together we are a wealth of knowledge and support.
We are a group of parents and caregivers dedicated to providing awareness and resources about Sensory Processing Disorder. We also provide support for caregivers of children struggling with sensory issues. Our mission is to Support, Encourage, and Empower all parents and caregivers whose children struggle daily with SPD.
People often ask, “What is Sensory Processing Disorder?” The most fitting way to describe it to people is that we all have seven senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, vestibular (balance), and proprioceptive (where our bodies are in space). Imagine if one or many of these senses were heightened or dulled; if a light could be so bright as to cause pain; if a whisper sounded like a shout; if a light touch was excruciating; or on the flip side, if your senses were dulled; if you could hurt yourself and not feel much pain; if you could not stand to be on a swing or other unstable surface because your body could not stay balanced. Every human has sensory sensitivities, but for a person with SPD these sensitivities significantly impact every day life. According to the latest research, SPD affects 1 in 20 children. That is a staggering statistic.
